By the end of December 2024, U.S. citizens receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments will receive two separate benefits in their accounts. Additionally, one of these payments will be higher than the usual amount.
While Social Security and SSI payments typically follow a regular schedule, there can sometimes be adjustments. The Administration does not issue payments on holidays or weekends, meaning the actual payment day can vary slightly.
For December 2024, SSI recipients who meet the necessary criteria will see two payments before the month ends. Here’s the breakdown of the payment schedule:
- December SSI Payment: This payment was made on November 29th, as December 1st fell on a weekend. Recipients should have already received this payment in their accounts by now.
- January 2025 SSI Payment: The payment for January 2025 will be issued on December 31st, 2024. This check will reflect the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2025, meaning it will be slightly higher than the usual amount. Instead of the typical $963, the payment will be $967.
To ensure timely receipt of these SSI payments, it’s crucial to have Direct Deposit set up. Those who don’t use Direct Deposit may experience delays in receiving their payments, which will take a few extra days to reach their accounts.
