ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron voiced strong support on Saturday for Ethiopia’s ongoing debt restructuring efforts, stressing the importance of achieving a resolution “in the coming weeks.”

During his visit to Ethiopia following a stop in Djibouti, Macron reaffirmed his commitment to assisting Ethiopia in addressing its financial challenges. His statement follows last month’s agreement between Ethiopia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the second review of a $3.4 billion financing program.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Macron said, “Due to your dedication to the reform programme you are spearheading, we are determined to finalize the restructuring of this 3 billion-euro debt in the weeks ahead.”
