PCGS continues to assert its position as the leading authority in the grading of world coins with the recent addition of two rare Australian varieties. A significant submission from a prominent Australian coin dealer included a 1943 Australian Half Penny and a 1977 Australian Two-Cent coin, both of which feature obverse doubled die varieties that are now officially recognized by PCGS.

“We are always thrilled to see rare and unique world coin varieties, like the 1943 Half Penny and the 1977 Australian Two-Cent coin,” said Stephanie Sabin, President of PCGS. “PCGS is proud to expand its catalog of recognized coin varieties globally, and Australia is no exception. We are excited to add these two specimens to our ever-growing census of certified varieties.”

The coins were submitted by Drake Sterling Numismatics, a PCGS Authorized Dealer in Australia, on behalf of an individual collector based in Perth. These exceptional varieties display prominent obverse doubling, which can be observed without magnification.

The 1943 Australian Half Penny showcases significant doubling in the inscription “GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX F : D : IND : IMP.” This marks the first instance of this particular doubled die being identified by PCGS.
