Sonora, CA – A woman from Altaville is facing charges after allegedly breaking into a vacant home in Sonora, moving in a guest, and accumulating utility expenses.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of unauthorized occupants at a residence on Snell Street. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 47-year-old Anastasia Stein along with an unidentified male companion.

During their investigation, deputies discovered that Stein was unlawfully staying at the property. It was revealed that she had utilized the home’s utilities and caused significant interior damage. Exterior inspection showed pry marks on a door, and inside, deputies found the front door’s original locking mechanism had been replaced with a deadbolt, for which Stein had the keys.

The man accompanying Stein claimed he had been invited to the home by her and was not implicated in the illegal activity. He was released without charges. However, Stein was arrested and booked on multiple felony counts, including second-degree burglary, vandalism exceeding $10,000 in damages, and utility theft.
